
Lightweight Solid Core Balsa Doors
Following discussions with James Kennett (Kennett Builders) in early 2014, it was determined there was a need to develop a lightweight solid core door. The goal was to develop a commercial grade lightweight door that maintained the structural, thermal and sound reduction qualities of a traditional solid core door (particleboard), yet was comparable in weight to a traditional hollow core door (foam or honeycomb cardboard). End grain balsa was the answer!
By replacing standard door cores with Gen-Eco FSC certified formaldehyde free end-grain balsa, we have developed a commercial grade door that maintains similar properties to a traditional solid core door (particleboard) without the excessive weight.
