Gen-Eco Ultralite Balsa
Gen-Eco EWP has developed a unique partnership and working relationship with the full supply chain of companies involved in the architecture and interior design industry. This includes the veneer producers, panel laminators and surface finish applicators which enables Gen-Eco EWP to bring a total solution to the designer and end customer. As interior designs become more elaborate they often require thicker, larger decorative panels and this can become a challenge for worker health and safety due to increased weight and handling. As a result the need to reduce the weight of these decorative furnishings becomes more important for both fabrication and installation. Through our fully integrated approach within the supply chain Gen-Eco EWP has successfully solved the weight issue by incorporating the light weight aspects of balsa in a laminated panel that cut the weight of traditional decorative panels by 60% or more. When fabricating and installing commercial interiors, shelving, wardrobes, acoustic ceilings and wall panels, doors and even furniture this significant reduction in weight can be extremely important in both safety and design efficiency.
Through our solid network of partners Gen-Eco EWP is able to take Ultra-light balsa sheets of various thicknesses and apply MDF or other hardwood facings for further surface finishing or for lamination of decorative veneers directly to the balsa surface. Since thicker panels offer more weight advantage over other wood products Gen-Eco EWP focuses on panels for the architectural industry with an average thickness or 40mm to 100mm. These thicker panels also offer an excellent stiffness without the need for costly reinforcements that are common to traditional panel applications. In addition, the offering of an FSC® certified balsa product from 3A Composites gives Gen-Eco EWP the advantage providing a fully eco-friendly product. This also benefits the end user as it enables them to attain credits in “Green Projects” in the Australian market place. Gen-Eco EWP and our partners have been able to expand this benefit into the commercial door, partitions and office furniture industries.
The use of Gen-Eco Ultra-light balsa in these applications opens up a complete new market opportunity for architects and designers to combine decorative interiors with complex designs and reduces the concerns for difficult and time consuming installations. We are excited to be strategically aligned with the 3A Composites team to bring these innovative ideas to market.
